CDC Targets Climate Change

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is awarding $5.25 million in grants to support state and local programs to combat health concerns related to global warming.

Some of the programs, including state programs in Arizona, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, and a program in the city of San Francisco, will receive $360 000 over 3 years to assess the potential health impacts of climate change and which local populations are most vulnerable. Other programs, such as those in New York City and the states of Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, and Oregon, will receive $750 000 over 3 years to develop strategies for mitigating threats that have already been identified.
