In Reply: Dr Beckman rightly highlights the importance of the method of estimating the ABI and the cut point to be used in screening healthy individuals for increased risk of cardiovascular events. Although intersocietal guidelines have made recommendations on these issues, the evidence base is limited and methodological distinctions between use of the ABI for diagnosing peripheral artery disease and for risk prediction have not been clearly made.¹
