It has been almost 3 decades since the first edition (1981) of Miller's Anesthesia was published, and the evolution to the current seventh edition has been as profound as the changes in the world of communication. The 1500-page black-and-white book of old has been replaced by a complete 3084-page educational resource that includes full-color multimedia images and videos, contains self-assessment essay questions, and is regularly updated and available (with the “premium” edition) anywhere there is Internet access. With such access, these 9-kg tomes can be “carried” electronically in the palm of the reader's hand. The goal of this edition is to be the “most complete and thorough resource on the global scope and practice of contemporary anesthesiology.” This contrasts with the stated objective of Clinical Anesthesia by Barash et al to “support(s) efficient and rapid acquisition of knowledge” and of Anesthesiology by Longnecker et al to be an “easy- to-use” volume.
