“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of overcoming it.” Chronic Pain: A Primary Care Guide to Practical Management opens with that statement by Helen Keller, then follows with clinical pearls and practical recommendations that can aid practitioners in maintaining that optimism. The stated objectives are to provide clinicians with an understanding of how pain affects patients' lives, to guide physicians through diagnostic challenges with respect to chronic pain, and to provide practical pain relief strategies. The text comprises 5 sections, including ones on common pain conditions and on the pathogenesis of chronic pain. Each chapter ends with a short quiz for review.
