“Atlas” is defined as a volume of tables, charts, or plates that systematically illustrates a particular subject, eg, anatomy. There is a long tradition in cardiology to use this format to provide graphic as well as prose updates on cardiovascular knowledge. In a field in which newer imaging technologies are being constantly evaluated and incorporated to better understand pathophysiology, there is a need for updated and expanded atlas versions. The Essential Atlas of Cardiovascular Disease aims to provide a condensed and comprehensive update of the key principles and most recent advances in cardiovascular medicine for the practicing cardiologist as well as the primary care physician.
