  • Catherine R. deVries, MD, chief of pediatric urology at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, has received the American Medical Women's Association award for community service.

  • Robert L. Replogle, MD, University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, has been elected president of the Council of Medical Specialty Societies. Leon Reinstein, MD, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and University of Maryland School of Medicine, is president-elect.

  • Donald A. Podoloff, MD, of the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, has been named president-elect of the American College of Nuclear Physicians.

  • Carol J. Baker, MD, a pioneer in research on vaccine for group B Streptococcus, has been named the first recipient of the Texas Children's Hospital Foundation Infectious Diseases Endowment Chair.

  • Martin J. Tobin, MD, director of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Loyola University Medical Center and Hines VA Hospital in Chicago, Ill, has been named editor of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.

  • Jose Diaz-Buxo, MD, president of Peritoneal Services for Fresenius Medical Care of North America, has received the National Torchbearer Award from the American Kidney Foundation. Diaz-Buxo is also a clinical professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.

  • Peter Steck, PhD, University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, has received the institution's Julie and Ben Rogers Award for Excellence in Research.

  • Thurma G. McCann, MD, a US Public Health Service captain, has been named director of the Division of Health Systems Management, US Coast Guard, Washington, DC.
