To the Editor The Viewpoint on mental illness and gun control1 pointed to the Maryland Task Force to Study Access of Individuals with Mental Illness to Regulated Firearms as an example of hasty policy decisions in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut, shooting. We believe Dr Swanson was wrong to imply that the Task Force recommendations were “crisis-driven reforms” developed in the immediate aftermath of the December Newtown shooting.
