Obesity rates in US adults are projected to increase nationwide by 2030, exceeding 50% in 39 states and adding up to $66 billion to the price tag of treating obesity-related diseases.
The figures are contained in F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America's Future 2012, a new report from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and Trust for America's Health, a nonprofit organization dedicated to disease prevention. “At every level of government, we must pursue policies that preserve health, prevent disease, and reduce health care costs. Nothing less is acceptable,” Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, MD, RWJF president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
