Jerome Frank (1909-2005) began his groundbreaking studies of psychotherapy in the late 1940s and started publishing his results over the next decade. Persuasion and Healing, his book about psychotherapy, first appeared in 1961; later editions arrived in 1973, and his daughter Julia B. Frank began serving as coeditor in 1991. Persuasion and Healing, grounded in meticulous observation and research, describes the entire psychotherapy enterprise, depicts the processes involved in psychotherapy, and offers what is still the most compelling explanation of how psychotherapy works and for whom.
