Clinical Diabetes Mellitus, edited by Drs. Max Ellenberg and Harold Rifkin, is a series of review articles on diabetes mellitus which was recently published in weekly sequence in the New York State Journal of Medicine. There are 43 authors and 34 chapters. The topics are arranged so as to cover the entire field systematically with some inevitable variation in length.
The chapters are written in the manner of review articles with a fairly complete and up-to-date bibliography comprising one-fifth of the text. It is well written, and in the "preclinical" section an attempt was made to relate the material to clinical application. It is gratifying to note chapters on dental and employment aspects of diabetes.
The mature readers will find this authoritative review of diabetes a rewarding experience. In more than one sense it is neither elementary nor a textbook. Detailed discussion of diet prescription is absent and the chapter
