Two sample chapters presenting a preview of the Council on Drugs' new annual volume, New Drugs, together with an editorial comment, appeared in the Oct 19 issue of The Journal. This new book, which differs greatly from the Council's previous annual publication, New and Nonofficial Drugs, provides authoritative and unbiased information that is usable, and presented in a format specifically oriented to suit the practitioner's needs. The volume will contain many cross references and a complete index.
It should be emphasized that New Drugs is not a textbook on pharmacology or therapeutics; instead it deals with the safety and efficacy of new drugs and how they compare with other agents, both old and new, that have similar uses. Thus, the inclusion of a statement does not imply the Council's acceptance or approval of the drug; the opinions are based on the weight of the available evidence, and may be either
