New Book on Drugs—1965

ABSTRACT

FROM ITS INCEPTION in 1905, the Council on Drugs (formerly the Council on Pharmacy and Chemistry) has had as one of its primary purposes the evaluation of drugs and the provision of authoritative information on drug therapy. In 1955 the Council discontinued its Seal of Acceptance program and, coincidentally, the name of its annual publication was changed from New and Nonofficial Remedies to New and Nonofficial Drugs.

Although NND proved useful to many as a reference book, the rapid introduction of a large number of new drugs has made it inadequate to meet the needs of practicing physicians. Consequently, NND is to be replaced by a new and greatly changed annual volume under the title, New Drugs. The content of the new book is oriented specifically to the needs of the practitioner and, in the two chapters reproduced below, it will be apparent to the reader that the various drugs
