Revision of Essentials for Pathology Residencies

ABSTRACT

THE COUNCIL ON MEDICAL EDUCATION announces that the House of Delegates has approved a revision in that portion of the Essentials of Approved Residencies dealing with the Special Requirements for Residency Training in Pathology.

This revision will be incorporated in the full text of the Essentials of Approved Residencies at the time of the publication of the Directory of Approved Internships and Residencies in the fall of 1964.

The revision pertains only to the Quantitative Requirements, and is being announced at this time for the guidance of program directors in pathology.

"Quantitative Requirements.—  In the field of anatomic pathology there should be sufficient volume and variety of autopsy, surgical and cytological material ( except in special programs) to insure adequate education, training and experience in this branch of the speciality. There are no absolute criteria but special scrutiny will be given to a hospital in which an adequate volume and variety
