Anew department is inaugurated in this issue of The Journal (p 145) with publication of "Sore Throat: A Diagnostic and Therapeutic Dilemma" by Gene Stollerman, MD. Communications in the Clinical Management section will provide current information on therapy and diagnostic methods to the physician at the bedside. A group of investigators with a background in clinical investigation and an interest in bedside teaching have prepared brief reviews of clinical interest.
It would be an injustice, both to physician and patient, to confine information regarding the management of patients to such items as dosage of drugs and other forms of "instant medicine." Clinical Management includes also understanding of laboratory aids, prognosis, differential diagnosis, and etiological considerations. Therefore, although most presentations will be devoted primarily to therapeutic measures, one or many aspects of management may be emphasized.
