ABSTRACT

Challenge Cost Statements on K-A.—  The president of the American Medical Association, Edward R. Annis, MD, said President Johnson was wrong in repeated statements about what a program of health care for the elderly tied to an increase in payroll taxes would cost the worker earning $100 a week or more."I am sure President Johnson would not purposely misinform the American people, "Annis said in a speech at Long Beach, Calif., "so, what other answer can there be except that he has not been given the facts when he repeatedly states that this legislation would cost the $100-a-week employee only $1 a month, $12 a year, and his employer an equal amount?"Annis pointed out that under terms of the King-Anderson bill before Congress, both the worker earning $100 a week and his employer would be forced to pay more than twice as much as the President has stated.
