ABSTRACT

The first edition of this work, written by Drs. Gurdjian and Webster, has been revised by the former with the assistance of Drs. E. D. Gardner, W. G. Hardy, D. W. Lindner, L. M. Thomas, and J. E. Webster. The volume retains the general format of the original work. A short introduction is devoted to the preparation of the patient, to the anesthesia and the instrumentation of operation. The surgery of the nervous system is discussed under the topical headings of head, spine, and autonomic and peripheral nerves. The description of each technique is preceded by a brief historical account of the development of the operation and the symptomatology of the condition for which the procedure is indicated. The text related to the operation is printed on the verso page with the illustrations on the recto for the convenience of the reader. This second edition has been enlarged by the
