To the Editor:
—In the Sept 14 issue of The Journal (185:874) it was stated in an article by Dr. Harry Most that hookworm infections are extremely rare in the US at the present time. This may be true in New York City but here in a rural community in Florida it is definitely not. During the past year, I have seen on the average at least one case of hookworm a week in doing a series of three routine stool examinations on all children who come into the office. In fact, hookworm is the most common parasite I have seen (excluding pinworm).
