To the Editor:—
With regard to the article in The Journal, March 9, on "Studies on Oxyuriasis: Efficiency of Gentian Violet in the Treatment of Pinworm Infestation" by Drs. Willard H. Wright and Frederick J. Brady, I should like to call attention to the use of "infusion of quassia" injected into the rectum. In a practice of more than fifty years, largely in a farming community, I never saw a failure with this treatment. To prevent reinfestation, cleanliness is of vital importance, particularly of the infected person's hands as well as of his clothing and bed clothing. Stools should be disinfected. Sleeping with an infected person should be forbidden. Raw fruits and vegetables should be thoroughly washed and cleansed, especially when used raw in salads.
