The Public Health and the Economic Crisis
The federal minister of the interior has transmitted to the Reichstag a memorial on the health of the German people. The memorial, prepared by the federal bureau of health and dealing with conditions up to August, 1931, reports on population, birth and death rates, morbidity, care of health in general, housing conditions, and conditions affecting nutrition and earnings. Especial importance attaches to the summarized statements: "Health conditions among the German people, in spite of the severely cold weather and the incidence of influenza during the first quarter of 1929, have been eminently satisfactory. The measures instituted to combat epidemics aided by the increasing understanding of the people of the need of health protection, have been carried out without opposition and, in the main, with success.
