Personal.  —Drs. William R. P. Clark and John H. Graves have been appointed members of the state board of health to succeed Drs. Adelaide Brown and Edward F. Glaser, resigned. —Dr. Eli A. Kusel has been appointed city health officer of Oroville, and Dr. Edwin B. Godfrey, health officer of San Bernardino County to succeed Dr. Samuel B. Richards.—The city of Santa Paula health department has been taken over by the county health department.

Outbreak of Trichinosis.  — Sixteen cases of trichinosis caused by the eating of jerked bear meat were recently reported in Vallejo, San Francisco and Oakdale. September 16, a Vallejo boy killed a bear in Trinity County. A number of persons ate steaks, roast and
