ABSTRACT

This entrance thesis is based on the refractive errors of 3,319 cases seen in Quito and 3,325 cases seen in Guayaquil. As the method of refraction is not given in detail and no statement is made whether mydriatics were used or not, the resultant figures are of but little value in any estimation of international refractive defects. However, for the sake of posterity, the innumerable tables may be summed up as follows:

Each class of cases in each country is analyzed according to age, sex, nationality, geographic elevation, prevalence of systemic disease and mean barometric pressure.
