Two senators are seeking information from several insurers and laboratory testing companies regarding “pull through”—the practice in which insurers receive discounted pricing from the companies in exchange for referrals.
Sen Max Baucus (D, Mont), chairman of the Finance Committee, and Sen Chuck Grassley (R, Iowa), ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, sent letters November 8 to Cigna, Laboratory Corporation of America, Aetna, UnitedHealth Group, and Quest Diagnostics seeking such documents as copies of laboratory service agreements and correspondence related to the negotiation of contracts between insurers and testing laboratories.
