In Reply: Theodore Marmor has a strong group
of supporters who have risen eloquently to his defense, and indeed to that
of the field of political science. First, Marmor needs no defense. His original
book on Medicare is indeed a classic. The book I reviewed was the second edition.
The review was requested because the book offers relevant new material. I
read it in the context of what is happening and tried to put it into that
context for practitioners. Although I did not mean to disparage the field
of political science, I did want to point out the limitations of the book.
