Diseases of the retina, choroid, and vitreous have become a large segment of ophthalmology. Even this segment has fragmented into subspecialties addressing retinal medicine, vitreoretinal surgery, oncology, uveitis, and the pediatric retina, generating a need for an all-encompassing “retinal atlas.” Lawrence Yannuzzi has undertaken this colossal project and delivered a masterpiece.
Although the author mentions 9 other contributors, it is evident that numerous persons have provided images. The quality of the more than 5000 images is superb. The images include fundus photographs (some panoramic), external photographs, histopathology sections, red-free photographs, autofluorescence images, fluorescein angiograms, indocyanine green angiograms, and optical coherence tomography images. The borders of most of these are color-coded to indicate which type is being presented.
